LIFE SCIENCE 152 CAMP 2015 TO JONKERSHOEK

FIRST DAY
In the month of August in 2015, the life science class went to the camp in Jonkershoek nature reserve. It was heavily raining and we had to just unpack the bags and go to the Hall for the mammal trap talk. I did not have the rain coat and my umbrella was broken because of the wing whilst we were still in University of the Western Cape campus. After the talk we went inside the Nature reserve to trap the mammals which are the mice in this case. We used butter and oats for trapping the mammals. The mammal trap was interesting to me and the guy who was showing us how to do the trap gave me the trapper to set it. Unfortunately my trapper did not trap any mammals. After all the work blue team had to make supper.
Second Day
In the second day we woke up, shower with cold water because the geyser was not working and we had some breakfast for the start of the day. We went for a hike which left me supper tired but I enjoyed it. On our way to the top of the mountain they showed us the King protea and it was actually the first time for me to see really protea not from the picture. As we were moving up we saw running water in the river and we wanted to taste the water and it was fun. We collected the insects and came back from nature reserve and we classified them.
Third day
On the third day there was a reptile presentation that most based on the snakes. From that day I actually learnt that “SNAKES ARE COOL”. It was very interesting to know that not all snakes are dangerous. In 150 sp there is approximately 15 that are dangerous.
Last day
We did presentations and there was an amazing talent show which was really nice thing to have. We were relaxed and having fun.

Experience in Cape of Good Hope nature reserve
We had a trip to the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve as a class of 2013 that are doing life science. We arrived there in time and on our way to the light house, we saw an ostrich

Everyone was so excited in the bus to see the ostrich and we were taking photos it and the bus stopped for it to pass through the road. The weather was not good enough because it was raining and windy but that never stops us from going ahead. When we arrive the bus had to stop and we get off, starting to move up the mountain to the light house and I noticed the board with latitudes and longitude of that place as follows.

As we were moving up the mountain there were some families of baboon around us and they were beating each other.  I enjoyed being the part of them although the Smelling around them was not good at all. The higher we go the windy it became and we were experiencing the change of it near the ocean. The time we were moving up the mountain my friend was so tired and I had to help her going up however I was tired too.
My friends got tired and they did not reach the light house I went there alone, whilst I was there I could feel that the force of gravity was losing me. I had no balance and it was hard for me to breath. When I was up there the view was so clear and I could not stay longer because the wind was blowing, I only took the picture and left.

On my way down I reached the place where my friends were sitting on and we went down on our way we met some Chinese guys and they took a picture with us. We were happy in a way that we did not even felt that the weather conditions were not good.
We continued going down where the bus was stopped and on the way we saw some beautiful place, we decided to put our bags down and took a photo. The baboon of Cape of Good Hope showed us its intelligence by picking my bag opens it, to take packet of chips and ate them. We were so shocked and surprised by that and we ran away from it!!!

We also went to the other side with beach on it and we went up again and we were told to walk in groups for our safety and we really enjoyed ourselves, again there were boards that were having some information written on

MY EXPERIMENTS IN LIFE SCIENCE
Life science is the module that I have  enjoyed so much in the University of the Western Cape. Our lectures are  so friendly to us ,the way they explain this is so clear. The part that I like the most in in the lecture room is when the lecturer uses the slides and movies to explain the work. When she did so I easily catch up on what the work was about. I have learned a lot because in everything we are doing we get deep in details for the clear understanding.

In the tutorials I have learned a lot as for preparing myself for the tests and it was so good to work with people who can correct you when you wrong. We once had a walk to the nature reserve, I don't want to lie I really did not enjoy it because I could not figure out what we were supposed to see. We were using our different senses and at the same time other plants were not having the saint. When we were moving around there I was so scared that some dangerous animals could come and bite us.
I have enjoyed being in the practical so much, when I am wearing that white coat I felt myself as a really scientist. I have observed so many things that I have never ever seen before by using the microscope. Using microscope in my life was the best part and it kind of cool. Life science is the module that I think it is the best to my life and it leads me to the career path. Now that I am the future I am having the knowledge of what to do in the lab and what had to be not done. I prepare myself every time when I go to class in order to be on the same page with the lecturer.

Speaking of my demonstrator I have experience good connection because she is friendly and she can speak with us in a good way. She is having an emotional intelligence, she know how make people comfortable around her especially us as the first years. When we need help she is always there even off the lab she is one of a kind. Life science is not what I use to think it is that boring module I thought it was, when I was at high school level. The history of life is in life science and it lovable when you know it very well. The way we write is science is totally different from writing the normally English we use to write. The writing in science has rule and instruction on how to write it. Although there is too much work to do sometimes in a less time that we have but it is training me to be able to work under pressure. Life science gives us the experience of how to deal with work in a small allocated time .
